GOVERNING ASSEMBLY
The General Council (FUM) is the highest decision-making body of the Swedish Law Association. It consists of 21 members and normally meets approximately once a month. The General Council is responsible for appointing, among other things, the association's board of directors, officers, nomination committee and election committee. The General Council also appoints the association's representatives in external bodies, for example at the faculty. The General Council adopts the JF's governing documents, as well as the annual budget. As you can see, all of the association's most important issues are on the General Council's table, and the discussions in the body can be lengthy.
Elections for the council take place in April. As a member of JF, you have the right to vote in the elections and to stand as a candidate.
Of course, as a member of the Legal Association, you can have the council raise questions or matters that you think are important. There are two ways to do this. First, you can go through the council members, to see if any of them want to submit a motion on your behalf. Second, a group of ten (10) members can submit a motion together, which is then the responsibility of the FUM to process.
Motions are sent to the association's board (easily via email to ordf@jf.se ) and must be received by the board no later than ten (10) working days before the regular general council meeting.
Dates for this year's council meetings will be published as soon as they are set. Dates for council meetings in the fall semester 2023:
Notices of meetings shall be posted on the association's notice board no later than seven weekdays before the meeting. The agenda shall be posted on the notice board no later than three days before the meeting. Minutes shall be made available at the association's office and website no later than five days after the minutes have been adjusted, but no later than ten working days after the meeting.
